Secretly, I had already created an online wish list of frilly little outfits months prior to my husband and I planning a second child. So when we found out we were actually having a girl, I was ecstatic. I was especially excited about decorating a nursery.
Even though I had the guest room painted yellow the year before, I asked the hubby to repaint the room light grey (a girl is allowed to change her mind, right?). I also bought charcoal grey curtains and a grey shag rug. Yeah, shades of grey isn't typical for a little girl's room but I didn't want anything too babyish. With white furniture + added pink and rose gold accents I assured my husband that the finished room would not look too dark or masculine at all.
I didn't like the idea of having to replace furniture after only a few years so we bought a crib that will convert to a toddler and full size bed.
When my son was born, we had him sleep in a bassinet next to our bed but he was nocturnal and pretty fussy the first few months so quite often at night, I'd end up moving the bassinet to his nursery (it was the only way Andy could actually get some rest for work). Luckily, Devin's nursery had an oversized arm chair and ottoman but this makeshift bed was not the most comfortable for me to sleep on. So this time around while we debated between an arm chair, rocker or a love sac we ended up going with an IKEA arm chair that can convert to a sleeper, just in case.
Now to the fun part... all the little details.
The book shelves, dresser and plants were also purchased from IKEA (we spray painted the dresser knobs rose gold). The gold side table, laundry basket and throw were purchased from Home Goods. The laser cut name sign was purchased on Etsy.
Since I love to craft, I wanted to add a few personalized touches of my own. I made a Beauty and the Beast inspired enchanted rose by spray painting the base of a glass candle holder I found at a garage sale and nailing a silk flower upright to it. With the help of some YouTube tutorials + supplies from Michaels, Hobby Lobby and the Dollar Store, I made a floral mobile and large paper flowers.
Picture frames, throw pillows, misc. decor items (some were spray painted to match the color scheme) were purchased from Amazon, TJ Maxx and Target. I mixed in a few gifts we received from our baby shower to make the room feel a bit more personal and full.
I love how the room turned out. Hopefully, Kelsey will love it too... well, when she gets old enough to appreciate that kind of thing.
